Watch Your Mate’s Back

Brought to you by Melanoma Institute Australia,

Watch Your Mate’s Back is educating Australians about melanoma and the simple steps we can take to prevent and detect it.

Melanoma is the most serious form of skin cancer and Australia’s third most common cancer in men and women – it takes a life every six hours. But there’s good news – it’s more easily prevented and detected than many other cancers. You’ve just got to be skin smart and Watch Your Mate’s Back.

All we need to do to be skin smart and Watch Our Mate's Back is:

Prevent

Melanoma is predominantly caused by accumulated UV radiation so we know that it can be easily prevented by being sun-safe. We also know that the outcome is far less serious if we catch it early.

Detect

We can all detect changes in our skin, and those around us are often first to notice. In fact, up to a third of patients say their suspicious spots were picked up by someone else - such as a friend or hairdresser.

Act

If you find something that doesn't look right, or you just aren't sure, book in for a professional skin check. Be safe, not sorry - and tell your friends to do the same. The more we look out for each other, the safer we'll all be.
